Police station is the first staircase and focal point of the police administration as well as of the criminal justice system. In 1976, DMP started functioning in full swing with 12 (twelve) police stations and by this time it stands to 33 with newly inaugurated 6 (six) PSs in the recent past and this number will finally touch 51 (fifty one) with the implementation of the awaited more 23 (twenty three) proposed stations. At present there are 8 crime divisions and 16 zones for controlling and supervising the regular activities of the PSs. Head of the each division is a Deputy Police Commissioner, while every zone is led by one Asstt. Police Commissioner and Officer- in – Charge of a police station is one Police Inspector.
The Prime motto of the crime division is to cleanse the Augean stable from the society and foster it.
The police station is responsible for the events like ensuring the criminal justice system within the reach of the general people, entry of general diary, filling cases, conducting investigation, ensuring public security, effective patrolling within the jurisdiction, executing the warrant of arrest, submitting the report of investigation to the court, controlling the crime, prevention of crime and giving intimation to the authority regarding any significant incident of day to day affairs.
DMP is divided into eight divisions named Wari, Motijheel, Mirpur, Tejgaon, Uttara, Lalbag, Ramna & Gulshan.
